What To Do In Cape Town In September

A vacation in Cape Town during the South African Spring is a magical time to spend time relaxing and enjoying the treats this special destination has to offer.

The dark days of winter are at last being left behind and with the promise of summer just around the corner, many delightful and fun activities are on offer to our visitors.

So what to expect to see in Cape Town in September?

The temperatures in the spring range from around overnight lows between 100-150 C (500-690 F), with daytime highs between 200 to 240C (700-750F), which means you will be able to enjoy the fabulous sights in comfort.

View From The Top

One of the first and foremost things to do is to reach the summit of Table Mountain.  The most popular way is to take the scenic cableway, which whisks you to the top in under 5 minutes.  A panoramic view over the whole area of the mountain and Table Bay is achieved through the “Rotair” cabin slowly turning on your journey up and down, so you get the full vista.

But why not consider a different way to the top?  There are many treks up this world famous mountain that suit a wide range of hiking abilities.  Good strong footwear, water and a good map of the walks and you are all set.  The beauty of hiking at this time of year is the pleasant weather – warm sunshine but not too hot!

Having reached the top, all your efforts will be rewarded with the stunning views across the whole of Cape Town, and to the south, Cape Point and the joining of the Indian and Atlantic Oceans.  Look out for the lovely Dassies, an animal like a large guinea pig, who you will see along the top, in the rocky outcrops.

Animals take centre stage in September, on the list of activities.  You won’t want to miss the sight of Southern Right whales just off the coast at Hermanus.  One of the only places you are able to see these majestic creatures from the deep, basking in the warm waters of the bay whilst you stand on dry land.  Shopping and whale watching together, has never been easier.

Off To Play

In the land where safaris are famous, Cape Town can also offer another unusual opportunity – of swimming with penguins.  Boulders Beach is the setting for getting up close and personal with the African penguins that nest behind the beach, making their way down to the sea to frolic and play all day.

Well, that’s the penguins’ all settled for the night!  What about you, have you got your accommodation in Cape Town arranged yet?
