1 Open Design Afrika Festival (October 18-27)

A design event that focuses on people and art, Open Design Afrika Festival is one of the most anticipated Cape Town events this October. This year’s program offers a variety of amazing events ranging from walking tours and innovation events to workshops and seminars. Some of the most popular events include Wetopia Inspiration Day, Human Rights Tattoo Event, and Citywide Activation. The festival is held at various locations, but the hub of the festival is the Castle of Good Hope.

2 Cape Town International Boat Show (October 18-20)

One of South Africa’s premium boating events, the annual Cape Town International Boat Show is celebrating its 18th birthday this year at the V&A Waterfront. The event attracts both buyers of luxury yachts and manufacturers and showcases exotic boats and marine equipment. Besides admiring all these cool yachts and catamarans, visitors will have a chance to enjoy water sports activities and join competitions with excellent prizes. It’s also worth mentioning that a VIP experience is available this year and includes a trip on the Ocean Princess, one of the most exclusive luxury motor yachts in the world.

3 The Gun Run (October 20)

The Gun Run is one of the most popular races in Cape Town. It caters to all fitness levels, attracts thousands of runners, and features 5km, 10km, and 21.1km routes. The race starts at the Waterfront and takes participants through some of the best areas in the city including Greenpoint, Sea Point, Bantry Bay, and Clifton. After the race, you can chill at the Kfm 94.5 music stage and enjoy delicious foods.

4 Mindful Drinking Festival 2019 (October 20)

The first of its kind in Africa, the Mindful Drinking Festival is one of the most unique Cape Town events this weekend. Head out to the Kirstenbosch Stone Cottages to attend a festival that offers exciting alcohol-free drinks, as well as an array of healthy food stalls and entertainment. Whether you wish to try booze-free beers and botanical spirits or want to participate in a blind-tasting event, there is plenty to look forward to at the festival. To keep you entertained, live acts like Zolani Mahola, the Porchlights, Hatchetman, Dax Butler, the Biscuit Mill Jazz Band, and Pravda are scheduled to perform, while Nik Rabinowitz is the MC for the festival. Tickets to the event cost R100 per person.

5 Shnit Outdoor Family Screening (October 20)

Taking place on the lawns of Battery Park at the V&A Waterfront, the Shnit Outdoor Family Screening festival showcases a selection of local and international short films and world-class animations. Some of the highlights include short international movies like Mamartuile, Uno, Zombies, and the South African Fall into the Sky among many others. Tickets for the event range from R80 to R150.
