* The Animal Anti-Cruelty League is one of the largest animal welfare organisations in South Africa. Established in 1956, the AACL is a charity that is supported entirely by voluntary donations. The primary aim of this group is to ‘promote kindness and prevent or suppress cruelty to animals.’

* The group operates across the country, with various outlets in Gauteng and the Western Cape. Their facilities include clinics, catteries and mobile clinics, ensuring that they are able to work within communities for the good of animals everywhere.

* Education plays a vital role in the AACL’s work. They believe that education is a far more effective tool than prosecution. As such, the Education Department was established in 1996, to conduct critical outreach to communities and educate the general public.

Wondering how to get involved over and beyond the Paws Thru the Vine event? You have a few different ways to help animals in need. Volunteers are accepted at the various branches. Children and adults can complete a short volunteering course aimed at helping them help animals. This is a great way for people from all communities to help by giving their time.

Donations are also welcome. View the official AACL website for more information on how to donate. This charity is also part of the Woolworths MySchool card programme.
