Major Events in Cape Town This Weekend — 22 -24 Nov 2019

South Africa’s Mother City offers a variety of events to enjoy on the weekends. From live jazz concerts and bubbly and wine festivals to craft and food markets, there is no shortage of interesting things to do in Cape Town. Here is my list of the major events happening in Cape Town this weekend.

1 Marc Lottering’s Aunty Merle: It’s a Girl (November 22)

Directed by Lara Foot and written by the famous comedian Marc Lottering, Aunty Merle is a fabulous musical with numerous nominations and 2 sell-out seasons. The much-anticipated hit show finally has a sequel called Aunty MERLE – Its a Girl and you can enjoy a high drama performance at the Baxter Theatre in Cape Town this weekend. The show starts at 7:30 pm and tickets range from R125 to R225.

2 Jazz and Classical Encounters @ Spier (November 23)

Spier Wine Farm is hosting the inaugural South African Jazz & Classical Encounters Festival this Saturday. Guests will have a chance to listen to some of the best South African jazz and classical artists including Kyle Shepherd Trio, The Night Light Collective, Mandisi Dyantyis, Mandla Mlangeni’s Tune Recreation Committee, and Jan-Hendrik Harley Ensemble Je ne Comprends Pas. This one-day festival is one of the most anticipated music events in Stellenbosch this weekend.

3 Fizzytherapy Festival Bubbles & Bling (November 24)

Head out to Villiera Wines to check out the 4th annual Fizzytherapy Festival Bubbles and Bling. Besides wine, you can try delicious foods from vendors such as Jack Rabbit, Boulevard 82 & Southern Smoke, So Vlaking Delicious, and The Mussel Monger & Oyster. In case you are more of a beer fan, enjoy the craft beer station by Berg River Brewery. To keep you entertained, Bottomless Coffee Band will perform their acoustic folk-rock set.

4 Kirstenbosch Craft and Food Market (November 24)

There are plenty of interesting things to do in Cape Town this weekend and one of my favorite events is the Kirstenbosch Craft and Food Market. Expect to find more than 250 stalls offering everything from tasty foods to craft beers and locally produced wines. There will be plenty of entertainment for children and pets on a leash are welcome to join the fun.

5 Mirage Summer Concert: Majozi & The Kiffness  (November 24)

Majozi & The Kiffness will be performing at the Mirage Yacht as a part of the Mirage Summer Concert Series this Sunday. Apart from the performance, this 6-hour cruise will include water activities, light snacks, and unlimited MCC by Graham Beck Winery. Gourmet food options like burgers will be available for purchase. Tickets for this event cost R1200 per person.
