Hygge House
Breathe and reconnect in this pared-down, Scandi styled home in a sought after security estate. The home’s sweeping sea views extend to Chapman’s Peak, Noordhoek, Kommetjie and the Slangkop Lighthouse, which winks goodnight to you each evening as you take in the view over a sundowner. The back of the house looks up onto the dramatic, craggy slopes of The Twelve Apostles.
The inside and outside spaces of this home are often only separated by glass which brings the garden and its giant pine trees, the boats on the bay and the ever changing rhythm and sounds of nature in the garden and on the mountain inside. The décor is simple, clean and classic with an emphasis on natural and organic. Comfy and casual are king. Delicious is too. Find mint in the garden to garnish a cocktail or herbs to add flavour to the feasts you can rustle up in the kitchen space that’s made for family and friends to gather and catch up with themselves. This perfect hideaway is designed for long lazy lunches followed by a siesta in a sunny corner or perhaps a dip in the pool or a spot of family cricket on the field behind the house. Tennis is an option too. The court is a minute’s stroll from the house.
Children are free to adventure and explore in mountain streams and along paths where the more energetically inclined can stretch their legs gently or break out into a jog. The 42 acres of open space are defined by inspiring fynbos gardens, forest, streams and a quaint dam – a perfect place to gather the clan for a picnic or for quiet reflection. Residents also have direct access to the forest and trails on the slopes of Table Mountain and its surrounding National Park which is officially one of the world’s seven wonders.
When the urge to dip your toes into the Atlantic ocean strikes Camps Bay is just ten minutes away (no traffic to worry about) and Llundudno beach is five minutes away. The bright lights of the Cape Town city centre and Waterfront are a 20 minute drive away by car, taxi or by the MyCity Bus which stops right outside the estate. For those wanting to tick some gastronomical milestones on their holiday list, the Hout Bay valley and neighbouring Constantia valley are home to some of the country’s most beautiful wine farms and eateries of global distinction, including La Colombe.
