Best Things to do in Cape Town This Weekend — 31 Jan – 2 Feb 2020

It’s the height of summer here in Cape Town and there is always something going on over the weekend. With sports events, live music shows, wine festivals, and food markets, it’s easy to see why South Africa’s Mother City is one of the most popular weekend destinations in the region.

1 Cape Town 10’s (January 31-February 1)

Cape Town 10’s is definitely one of the most anticipated events in Cape Town this weekend. This award-winning social sport and lifestyle event hosts some of the country’s biggest and most popular music names, as well as Africa’s largest beer tent. Expect to see thousands of fans at Green Points Common Fields enjoying a weekend full of sports events, live music, and cold beers. Tickets for this extraordinary event cost R220 per person.

2 The Rudimentals Live @ Jagger Lounge (January 31)

If you wish to listen to a stellar local live music act, we recommend paying a visit to the Jagger Lounge this weekend where you will have a chance to listen to Cape Town’s  Rudimentals. This Reggae/Dancehall/Dub band has 3 award-winning singers accompanied by 7 other highly accomplished local musicians. The tickets for the concert will set you back R120 per person.

3 Sun Met 2020 (February 1-2)

The famous Sun Met event brings fashion lovers and racing enthusiasts together for an unforgettable weekend of top-class racing paired with fashion. Held at the famous Kenilworth Racecourse, the event features world-class horse racing entertainment and fashion celebrities and media personality interpreting the African Luxury theme. A ticket for the event will set you back R200.

4 Franschhoek Summer Wines Festival (February 1)

Franschhoek Wine Valley is hosting the annual Franschhoek Summer Wines Festival this weekend. If you wish to see winemakers showcasing some of their best summer wines for this season including white, rosé, Méthode Cap Classique and you also want to try seasonal-inspired food prepared by the famous Chef Pieter de Jager, head out to Leopard’s Leap Family Vineyards in Franschhoek this Saturday. Besides a variety of wine and delicious foods to try, there will be live music to enjoy.

5 The Fort Food Truck Market (January 31)

The Fort Food Truck Market is one of my favorite events in Cape Town this weekend. There will be dozens of awesome food trucks with options such as desserts and Halal, as well as a fully stocked bar, tunnel tours, entertainment for the little ones. The food market is taking place at Fort Wynyard and lasts until 10 in the evening.
