The Mother City is hosting dozens of excellent events this weekend ranging from comedy performances and live music shows to a romantic cruise with panoramic views of Table Mountain. Without further to do, I present you the list of the best events in South Africa’s Cape Town this weekend.
1 The Phil Spectrum One-Man Show (March 22)
Phil de Lange is getting quite popular in the comedy circles these days. In 2018, this amazing presenter and radio producer was chosen to be a part of the Nationwide comedy showcase broadcast on Showmax and has recently visited Germany to do some shows. This Friday, you can catch his debut one-man show “The Phil Spectrum” at the popular Baxter Theatre Centre in Cape Town. From stand-up comedy to live radio sketches and ukulele songs, Phil de Lange does it all. The tickets for this event cost R120 per person and the show starts at 7 30 pm.
Venue: Baxter Theatre Centre, Main Road, Rondebosch, Cape Town
2 Stellenbosch Airshow (March 23)
Head out to the Stellenbosch this Saturday to watch a magnificent Airshow. Some of the highlights will include Team Extreme Aerobatics, South African Air Force Siver Falcons display team, the first Blackhawk helicopter in South Africa and much more. Refreshments and tasty food will be available throughout the event which starts at 8 am. Tickets for adults cost R150 per person and can be purchased online or at the gates.
Venue: Stellenbosch Flying Club, Aerodrome Road, off the R44, Stellenbosch
3 Nirvana Cruise (March 23)
One of my favorite events in South Africa’s Cape Town this weekend is definitely the two-hour long Nirvana Cruise. Hop aboard the 55-foot luxury power catamaran, Tigger 2 Royale and enjoy magnificent views of Table Mountain, Lion’s Head, and Signal Hill. DJ Brown is in charge of the music and the boat is scheduled to make a midway stop. One ticket for this fabulous cruise will set you back R550 and includes a buffet of sushi and oysters, as well as juice or 2 flutes of sparkling wine.
Venue: Tigger 2 Royale, Pierhead, T-jetty V&A Waterfront, Cape Town
4 KG Mokgadi @ Mother City Comedy Festival (March 23)
It seems there is no shortage of comedy shows in Cape Town this weekend. One of the most popular comedians in the region, Kagiso Mokgadi, or KG is performing at the Gold Arrow Studio in Baxter Theatre this Saturday. Like many comedians, KG started out as an open-mic comedian but quickly became active in both theatre and corporate comedy.
Venue: Gold Arrow Studio, Baxter Theatre, Main Rd, Rondebosch
5 Shortstraw & Bam Bam Brown @ Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens (March 24)
The last event on our list is also one of the most anticipated events in South Africa’s Cape Town in March. As a part of the Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts, a popular indie-rock band Shortstraw and the Afro-Folk-Rock Bam Bam Brown are performing at the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens. With nominations for the MTV Africa Music Award and South African Music Award, Shortstraw are probably one of the biggest live acts in South Africa nowadays. Tickets for the concert cost R150 – R190.
Venue: Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens, Rhodes Ave, Newlands, Cape Town
