Cape Town in the World’s Spotlight

As we kick off 2013, we also want to take a look back on a year filled with travel awards and other accolades for the Mother City. Every year, Cape Town’s place on the world’s map is cemented just a little bit more. And while we may be biased, we can’t help but agree that this city truly is the best place to visit, work, live and play. It’s not just us locals who agree either, as these 2012 awards show…

Cape Town Awards in 2012

Over the past year alone, Cape Town has received 11 different awards and accolades. From Best Beaches to Top City, internationally recognised publications such as Condé Nast,  Travel & Leisure, National Geographic, CNN, TripAdvisor and even judges and voters for the World Travel Awards have placed Cape Town right on the map.

Here are some of the awards and honours that the city has proudly received over the course of the past year:

  • Best Beach Destination in Africa – World Travel Awards 2012
  • Top City in Africa – Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards 2012
  • 1st:  World’s Top City in Africa and the Middle East – Travel & Leisure World’s Best Awards 2012
  • 2nd: Top City in the World – Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards 2012
  • 4th: Top City in the World – Travel & Leisure World’s Best Awards 2012
  • Conde Nast Readers choice award Cape Town 2012Muizenberg: World’s 20 Best Surf Towns – National Geographic
  • The World’s Ten Most Loved Cities 2012 – CNNgo
  • 8th Top 10 Truly Unique Beaches in the World – Tripadvisor 2012
  • 8th: Top 10 Beach Destinations in Africa – Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice Awards 2012

  • Blue Flag Status 2012 – Bikini, Mnandi, Strandfontein, Muizenberg, Llandudno, Camps Bay, Clifton 4th and Silwerstroom Beaches plus Granger Bay Water Club and the False Bay Yacht Marinas.

Of course, no leading travel destination would truly be a success without its visitors. Cape Town may have all the right ingredients to make it a slice of paradise, but without the people who come to the city each year to enjoy its scenery, atmosphere and world-class attractions, all that goodness would not be shared with the rest of the world.

As we welcome visitors from new, previously smaller travel markets, such as Australia, Canada and the US, along with our usual fans from the UK and Europe, we want to thank each and every person for helping us make Cape Town a memorable place to be.

Whatever 2013 may bring, we are sure that the city will continue to shine in the world’s spotlight, with plenty of amazing holidays, business trips and travel experiences (and hopefully a few more Cape travel awards) enjoyed all round.
