The night of Thursday 8 March will mark the third #moonlightmass bicycle ride. The regular ride, which started in January, sees Cape Town’s plain-clothed bicycle riders take to the streets under the full moon. The second ride saw 80 riders take to the streets. The third ride is expected to see even more riders, with the World Naked Bike Ride in Cape Town just two days after, and the world’s largest timed bicycle race, the “Argus” cycle tour just 3 days after.
In addition to Cape Town having bicycle fever, the ride will take place during the Infecting The City public arts festival. #moonlightmass will start as usual at 21h00 under the Greenpoint roundabout, but riders are encouraged to meet in Church Square in Spin Street at 20h15 to see the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra perform as part of Infecting The City. All of the moonlightmass-ers will then depart to be in Greenpoint by 21h00.
As usual, #moonlightmass will allow citizens to experience their city at night from a unique perspective, but this time with an even more unique public performance thrown in the works.
Join in on the fun for #moonlightmass, a casual bicycle ride through the city. Anyone welcome, even (read especially) if the last time you rode a bicycle was as a kid. Please use standard red and white bicycle lights if possible.
