Choosing the best honeymoon destination in South Africa is always going to be tricky, simply because of the amazing diversity of places to visit and things to see and do in a country the size of South Africa.
So let me guide you to one of my most favorite places in the world – Cape Town.
Romance has to be Cape Town’s second name and what better place to surround yourself with affairs of the heart than in a city which combines the best of Africa with the luxury and quality you would expect to find anywhere in the world. Royalty, world leaders and celebrities all flock to this oasis of calm at the heart of the city, so you never know whom you might be taking tea with!
Yet Cape Town is so much more than just another stop on the world tour.
Mount Nelson Hotel, Cape Town
Glamourous, luxurious, captivating – three of the adjectives that sum up the pink palace nestling under Table Mountain and surrounded by it’s own 9 acres of lush gardens, the Mount Nelson Hotel is a real Cape Town institution.
Although the Nellie, as it is affectionately known throughout the city, was built in the late 19th century, it embodies unparalleled tradition, history and luxury in a cocoon of modern facilities.
Take afternoon tea at the Nellie, and sip your favourite tea in the beautifully furnished lounge, selecting from a delectable choice of finger sandwiches, cakes and scones, all freshly made in the hotel’s award winning kitchens.

Close to some of the finest Cape Town hotels is the lovely Greenmarket Square, the place to find knick-knacks, souvenirs, clothing and jewellery. One of the city’s most vibrant flea markets does business every day, whilst tourists and business people alike rub shoulders in the many sidewalk cafes surrounding the cobbled square.
Gold and diamonds, being tokens of love, are very much an integral part of the structure of South Africa. With much of the wealth of the nation having been built on these two commodities, it is fitting that plenty of the jewellery on display in the shops is “home-grown”- hewn from the land – beautifully crafted into exquisite charms to remind you of your Cape Town honeymoon.
Of course there is also the world-renowned Waterfront for shopping on an international scale. The Waterfront is a delightful collection of sheds and historic buildings, originally forming part of a working dock, transformed into shops, restaurants and cafes, jostling side by side to capture your attention, whilst the haughty grandeur of the new penthouse suites and apartments look down over the marina and harbour.
Romance in the Air
The Waterfront is a hive of activity from morning to night.
For peace and tranquility guaranteed, what better than a hot air balloon ride over the winelands of the Western Cape? Drift serenely above the vibrant green vineyards in the warmth of the early morning sunshine on your way to a 5 star Bucks Fizz breakfast for a start to the day that is hard to match!
Whatever you are looking for in your Cape Town honeymoon, you can be assured of a warm, friendly welcome and memories to treasure forever. Why not let us help you plan your perfect honeymoon destination in South Africa with our expert knowledge to point you in the right direction?
