Looking for cool things to do in South Africa’s Mother City this weekend? Fortunately, there are many excellent events happening in Cape Town ranging from a 2-day winter sports festival and a flower trail marathon to a cool live music show. This is my list of the best events taking place in Cape Town this weekend.
1 Fish Hoek Primary Winter Sports Festival (August 16-17)

Hosted by Fish Hoek Primary School, MICA Winter Sports Festival is celebrating its 8th birthday this year and invites all sports fans to join the fun. During this 2-day festival, guests will have an opportunity to watch 152 teams from 14 different schools competing in sports like netball, rugby, and hockey. As for the entertainment, there will be jumping castles, paintball, netball shooting, tasty food, and live music performances by artists such as Georga Olivia, Boyes Drive, Ben Dey & the Concrete Lions, and Amy Tjasink. The entrance to the event is free of charge.

2 Fit 4 Wiings (August 17)

From the list of excellent events happening in Cape Town this weekend, my personal favorite is definitely the Fit 4 Wiings. Hosted by Girls with Wiings, this outdoor bootcamp event is organized for a good cause. Expect to see local celebrity hosts and fit influencers presenting 5 incredible workouts which are suitable for all fitness levels. Each ticket allows Girls with Wiings to purchase one toiletry bag for unprivileged and homeless women in Cape Town. Tickets cost R90 per person and guests can bring along their yoga mat or sweat towel.

3 Improv Drop-In Sessions (August 18)

The owner of the Alexander Bar in Cape Town, Kemsley Dickinson is hosting Improv Drop-In Sessions and both inexperienced and experienced actors are welcomed to participate. This will be a great opportunity to have some fun and meet new people while enjoying the improvised theater. The entrance to the Improv Drop-In Sessions at the Alexander Bar is free of charge.

4 Dan Patlansky Duo @ Drostdy Teater (August 16)

Dan Patlansky’s Electric Duo Tour at the Drostdy Teater is one of the best events in Stellenbosch this weekend. Voted as one of the best blues guitarists in the world by Music Radar and with the SAMA Award for Best Rock Album in 2019 for Perfection Kills, Dan is taking his electric guitar for a brand new set of songs for this tour. He will be accompanied by Dean Barrett on keyboard. A ticket for the concert will set you back R150 per person.

5 West Coast Flower Trail Run (August 17)

There is no shortage of excellent events happening in Cape Town and Love Yzer and!Khwa ttu is hosting the West Coast Flower Trail Run this Saturday. Thanks to the blossoming flowers and perfect landscape views, this is one of the most scenic and colorful trails in the region. Runners will have a chance to see herds of zebra, admire rolling hills covered in lush grass, and enjoy spectacular Atlantic Ocean views. There is a 5km, 10km and a 21km trail and facilities like hot showers, free Wi-Fi, coffee bar, and secure parking are provided for runners who decide to participate.
