Well-known for its picturesque scenery and world-famous landmarks, South Africa’s Cape Town also offers a bustling nightlife scene. Whether you wish to enjoy live music performances, dress to the nines and dance at a nightclub, or visit a dive bar and drink cocktails prepared by the city’s best mixologists, there are plenty of places in Cape Town to go out in the evening. Here is my list of best options for a fun night out in Cape Town.
1 Tjing Tjing Rooftop Bar
Situated on the top of a historic building on Longmarket Street, Tjing Tjing Rooftop Bar boasts a rather interesting interior and offers spectacular views of the city from their rooftop terrace. Make sure to order the signature jelly-baby daiquiri and litchi martini or grab something from their tapas menu. Besides great cocktails and delicious food, Tjing Tjing Rooftop Bar has an extensive wine list.
2 Fiction Music Bar
Located on the popular Long Street, Fiction Music Bar is one of the oldest nightclubs in the city. With a lovely balcony and an excellent dance floor, Fiction is an ideal destination for a fun night out in Cape Town. From disco nights to the popular Strictly 2000s events and hip hop parties, there is something for every party animal in Cape Town.
3 Shimmy Beach Club
V&A Waterfront’s Shimmy Beach Club is a world-class seaside dance venue that attracts hundreds of visitors daily. Located on the water’s edge, the club has its own private beach, a nice infinity pool, and a large alfresco deck where you can unwind before the party starts. There are also private seating areas for VIP guests, as well as 2 nicely decorated bars. To keep you entertained, Shimmy Beach Club throws the best parties ever with performances from world-renowned local and international DJ’s.
4 Cape Town Comedy Club
A fun night out in Cape Town doesn’t always have to include drinking cocktails and dancing the night away. For a different experience, pay a visit to the Cape Town Comedy Club. This venue for stand-up comedy houses everything from corporate events to performances by world-famous comedians. It’s also a great place to have drinks and food, as there is a nice bar and restaurant on-site.

5 Coco
One of the most exclusive night clubs in the city, Coco attracts a number of local celebrities who come here to show their moves on the dance floor. With five-star bottle service and a VIP area, this nightclub is all about style and glamour. Friday nights are reserved for Hip Hop and RnB events, while house music is played on Saturdays.
6 Café Caprice
Located in Camps Bay, Café Caprice is a trendy club and bar packed with stylish patrons drinking cocktails and socializing. It also attracts many local movie stars and models and offers artisan drinks and a laid-back vibe. There is no dress code here; however, I would not recommend visiting Caprice in flip flops and a beach towel.

A visit to the Jade Lounge & Champagne Bar is one of the best options for a fun night out in Cape Town. From lounge-style furniture to a beautiful clientele dress to the nines, this intimate nightlife venue is one of the classiest places in the city to go out in the evening. On Thursdays, expect to hear a bunch of RnB hits, while Fridays and Saturdays are reserved for deep house music.
8 Decodance Nightclub
Sea Point’s Decodance Nightclub is an alternative venue with two dance floors, ample seating, and three bars. The venue usually plays the best of the 70s, 80s, and 90s and hosts many special events throughout the year. Entrance to the club is free of charge for ladies who show up before 10 pm.
9 House of Machines
Locally known as the House, this cocktail bar/café offers an extensive list of carefully curated cocktails. The Negroni cocktail here is simply amazing, as well as the popular Old Fashioned. The bar houses live music performances throughout the week and offer breakfast and coffee in the mornings. Keep in mind that cocktails here are a bit on the expensive side, but they are really tasty and crafted to perfection.
