You may believe that you have plenty of time to book your accommodation and travel plans before the 2010 FIFA World Cup, but think again! Excitement for this world event is high, so if you plan to delight in the activities of this football extravaganza you’d better start your plans today.
It has been estimated that 400,000 or so fans will flock to the Cape area for this once-in-a-lifetime event. And although there are several accommodation options to choose from in the Cape Town area, these will fill fast the closer the event gets. Some have even speculated that there will not even be enough hotels and motels to accommodate all who wish to enjoy the events.
Green Point Stadium in Cape Town is the stage currently being set to hold group games, and a semi-final.
Whether you wish to find accommodations close to Green Point Stadium or in the surrounding areas, make sure to also arrange for your travel accommodations by booking your car hire in advance. You’ll also have more options available, including classic, or luxurious limousines, if you book early.
And don’t forget about all the spectacular activities available to you before and after the game. Take a trip to one of our spectacular beaches, sample some of our award-winning wines along the Cape Wine land routes, or shop to your hearts content at the V & A Waterfront.
Try some of our world-class restaurants, or paint the town and visit some of the marvellous clubs and cocktail bars available to you in downtown Cape Town.
You could also take advantage of a booked tour, and leave the details to someone else, or plan your own route and activities. If you plan to travel on your own, be sure to book your car ahead of time so you will not be disappointed and miss your chance to see the sites.
There are many other exciting sporting activities for you to enjoy, which will leave you just as energized as the game itself. Try a few of these ideas for a start:
Cape Town also offers some of the best golf courses available if you need a more relaxing activity.
There really is something for everyone available in Cape Town. For the family, try Ratanga Junction for rollercoaster rides for the whole family. Travel to the nearby Canal Walk for shopping; this is the biggest shopping center in the Southern Hemisphere. There are several more day trips available for family enjoyment, including some educational and exciting safaris.
The bottom line is that procrastination will only lead to disappointment. Although you may get lucky and be able to find some last-minute cancellations, why take the chance? Be sure to book early for your Cape Town accommodation, travelling and sight-seeing arrangements

August 25, 2008 @ 6:58 pmMy husband & I visited South Africa for the Rugby World Cup in 1995. We watched England play the All blacks at Newlands in Cape Town, and travelled up to Johannesburg for the finals.
Since that, South Africa has become one of our favourite holiday destinations. We usually rent self catering accommodation, but the luxury hotels are world class, and much cheaper than back home.
Come in March or April if you want a bit more peace and quiet, and sunshine!
